Dusty Smith, MD


Dr. Dusty Smith joined the Gadsden Orthopedic team in 2015. He attended the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, completed his orthopedic residency at the University of South Alabama Hospitals, and participated in a spine fellowship at the Leatherman Spine Institute in Louisville, Ky.

Before joining the staff of Gadsden Orthopedics, Dr. Smith worked with Premier Surgical Institute and Stateline Surgery Center in Galena, Kan.; St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo.; McCune Brooks Regional Hospital and McCune Brooks Regional Hospital in Carthage, Mo.; Mount Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Kan; as well as other respected facilities in Kentucky and Alabama.

He is a member of the North American Spine Society, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Louis D. Anderson Society as well as the Alabama, Kansas and Missouri state orthopedic associations.

Dr. Smith is deeply involved in research involving expandable intervertebral cage systems and currently has three medical patents pending. Dr. Smith has lectured extensively during the last 15 years on fusion techniques and other medical orthopedic subjects.

He and his wife, Jennifer, have twin sons. He enjoys weightlifting, hunting, fishing, scuba diving and snow skiing. Dr. Smith is also involved in numerous community organizations including several important groups dedicated to autism treatment and research.
